Another Massive Change Coming to Walmart Stores in Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts
Over the last few years, we have seen some significant changes come to some of the country's largest retail chains.
Even though the twenty-teens were not all that kind to many brick-and-mortar stores, the problems really escalated with the pandemic. Even the stores that were allowed to remain open during the "lockdown" saw problems because they were a hassle. This led to more and more people just shopping online.
As a result, many chains, including Walmart, had to adjust the way they did business in order to compete with online retailers.
Now, it looks like the massive retail chain is making another significant change to the way their stores operate.
According to an article from CNN that was on the WABI website, the retail giant announced it plans to replace traditional paper price tags with digital shelf labels in stores across the United States. According to a company news release, the rollout is expected to reach all U.S. locations within the next year.
Instead of employees manually swapping out paper tags, the new labels will be connected to a centralized system that allows prices to be updated almost instantly. That means when prices change, the update can happen electronically rather than store workers having to replace each individual tag.
The company says the digital labels are also designed to make day-to-day store operations more efficient. The technology can help employees locate items more quickly when stocking shelves and picking products for online grocery or pickup orders.
For shoppers, the biggest difference will simply be seeing small digital displays where the familiar paper price tags used to sit.
Walmart says the move is part of a broader effort to streamline store operations and improve the overall shopping experience.
