After receiving complaints for failure to yield to pedestrians, not following traffic signals, and blocking intersections, the RCMP monitored Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview intersections, the RCMP said.

Most drivers received tickets for failing to come to a complete stop at a red light before making a right hand turn.  Removing studded tires, expired inspection stickers and not wearing seat belts are several of the other violations. Nine pedestrians were ticketed for crossing the street on a "do not cross' signal, said the RCMP.

Traffic signals are at intersections for the safety of motorists and pedestrians and both must obey the lights," says Staff Sergeant Eric Larose of the Codiac Regional RCMP. "The vast majority of drivers and pedestrians were obeying the law. Those not following the rules of the road were putting themselves and others at risk of a serious or fatal collision."

Drivers lose 3 points and are fined $172.50 for these infraction under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act.

Intersections will continue to be closely monitored by the RCMP.
