Gas Prices Headed Up in New England

Like temperatures, prices at the pump are on the rise in New England.

The national average price of gas has has gone up by 4.6 cents in the last week, averaging $2.71 a gallon. That's down 10.5 cents per gallon from a month ago, but is 13.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Here in Maine, according to GasBuddy.com, gas went up 5 cents a gallon in the past week to an average $2.66. Most stations in Presque Isle were at $2.77 Tuesday morning.

In neighboring New Hampshire, gas prices rose 5.5 cents a gallon over the last week to an average $2.59 a gallon. Prices at the pump in Vermont increased by 1.8 cents to $2.68 a gallon on average.

GasBuddy's Patrick DeHaan blames the price increases on rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran for higher oil prices, declining inventories, and even a potential U.S.-China trade deal as contributing factors.
