Police have charged a Presque Isle man with possession of crystal meth and theft of a vehicle after the man crashed the vehicle on Thursday.

The Fort Fairfield Police Department received a complaint during the early morning hours from a local resident, alleging Willie York of Presque Isle had stolen a vehicle from his yard.

Fort Fairfield Police Officer Dale Keegan began searching for the 37-year-old York but was unable to find him or the missing vehicle, according to a news release.

Around 6:40 that morning, a citizen spotted a vehicle down an embankment at the Henderson and Houlton Road intersection in Easton. Maine State Police, the Easton Fire Department and Crown Ambulance responded to the crash.

Fort Fairfield Police say York was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital in Presque Isle where he was treated and released. Police arrested York on four outstanding warrants and charged him with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

A search warrant was also issued for the vehicle and 3.9 grams of crystal methamphetamines was seized, police say. York was charged with felony possession of schedule W drugs and was transported to the Aroostook County Jail pending a court appearance.
