Twenty-three-year-old Travis Lawler pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other charges Monday for the June 2012 crash in Belgrade while he was on leave from Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He was scheduled to begin his sentence Sept. 6.

District Attorney Maeghan Maloney tells the Kennebec Journal that Lawler was arrested Friday after her office received information he was using bath salts, an illegal synthetic drug. Police said Lawler was hospitalized on Thursday after officers responded to a medical-related call.

Lawler's attorney could not be reached for comment Sunday.
