Police Chief Rod Beaulieu said five people were taken to Maine Medical Center. The Portland Press Herald said a teenager and an adult were in serious condition.

Many residents on Frye Island use golf carts for transportation.

The golf cart accident was the second in Maine in less than a week. Last weekend, a Sanford man fell off a golf cart on Saturday in Casco and later died from his injuries at Maine Medical Center.
