Here in New England, we're used to packing a backpack, duffel bag, or rucksack and just heading out into nature. Either 'upta camp' or out to your favorite place to set up camp.
New Englanders love camping, and Maine has plenty of places to pitch a tent.
According to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry, 'Off Season & Winter Camping' is from December 15th to March 15th. Winter camping is available at select campgrounds within this timeframe with 'primitive tent camping' only.
However, now that we're outside of that period of time, we can start focusing on the time of year when folks go camping most often.
Which camping spots in Maine were ranked among the best in New England?
According to The Dyrt, who recently released a list of the 'Best Places to Camp,' highlighting the 'Top 10 in New England,' our Pine Tree State had a really good showing, with our campsites taking up half of the list.
As explained in the article, The Dyrt's methodology when ranking these campgrounds was based on details, ratings, and reviews from 'campers like you.'
Well, which places in Maine are represented on the list?
10. Lily Bay State Park
9. Smuggler's Den Campground
6. Bar Harbor Campground
4. Sandy Pines Campground
2. Schoodic Woods Campground
You can check out The Dyrt's full list and read further details on each individual campground, here.
