Driver Injured in Southern Aroostook Logging Truck Rollover Crash

A 62-year-old man suffered serious injuries Monday evening when the loaded log truck he was driving went off a dirt road in Monticello.

State police responded to the crash off the Curtis Road in Monticello at around 5:15 p.m.  Police say Kerry Hardy of Dyer Brook was heading down a hill on a private logging road in a tractor-trailer loaded with tree length logs.

Hardy was going around a right turn when the rear of the trailer went off the right side of the road, according to Trooper Adam Bell.  The trailer slid down an embankment and rolled onto its right side, causing the tractor to roll onto its right side as well.  The load of logs spilled from the trailer and into the ditch.

Police say Hardy was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown to the passenger side of the cab. He suffered a major laceration to his head and a possible broken right leg, according to Trooper Bell.

Crews from Monticello Fire and Ambulance and Houlton Ambulance responded to the accident. Hardy had to be extracted from the cab, and was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment for his injuries.

The tractor trailer, a 2015 Freightliner owned by Hardy, sustained significant damage in the crash and the truck and load were later removed from the scene.
