Highly touted Red Sox third base prospect Rafael Devers smashed a home run in his first plate appearance at Hadlock Field for the Portland Sea Dogs last night. The Dogs beat Reading 4-2 in the Eastern League Double-A season opener.

Devers is ranked as the Red Sox #2 prospect. He is just 20-years-old.

OF Aneury Tavarez clubbed a 7th inning two-run homer that turned out to be the game winning hit. Tavarez spent spring training with the Baltimore Orioles as a Rule 5 draft pick but when the O's elected not to keep him on the major league roster he had to be returned to the Red Sox.

Attendance for the opening game at Hadlock on a chilly Friday night was 3,394.
