Denny’s is an iconic diner chain that many of us know and love. Why? It’s a 24 hour diner and you can go any time to grab affordable munchies. Eating breakfast at Denny’s after you’ve had a night of fun, in the middle of the night is a pastime for many American’s. Well, at least that’s my experience. So when I heard the news that this iconic diner chain is planning to close 15 more locations by the end of 2024, I was shocked.

According to USA Today, this news has become a trend of closures that have affected so  many Denny's restaurants in the U.S.

Earlier this year, Denny’s shut down 57 other locations which brought the total number of closures up to 72, as per the report.

As per the report, this is due to financial difficulties coming from inflation, high costs, and underperformance at some of the older locations.

Many of the affected spots have been open for decades now but they have struggled to keep up with their profits.

Some of the remaining Denny's are trying to revamp their menus to help by bringing back the popular $2-$4-$6-$8 value deals and adding a new $10 tier to encourage patrons to come back into the location that still remain open, as per the report.

For longtime Denny’s die-hard fans, like myself, the closures are literally like a sign of  the end of an era.

I remember after our theater performances at the Community Little Theatre, we’d head to Denny’s late at night for a real encore, pancakes piled with mounds of whipped cream. We’d sing, dance, and probably scare the other diners with our after-show performances. But hey, what's better than celebrating a successful show with a Broadway finale at 2 a.m. at Denny's?

So, many of us have grown up with that bright glowing yellow and red sign luring us in. My favorite location? The one in Auburn, Maine at 211 Court Street has been a presence for decades.

According to USA Today, there are 1,358 Denny's that operate inside the U.S. However, the company has not yet revealed which 150 of its restaurants will be closing.

I don't remember a time where it wasn't lighting up the sky, all night love.

Despite the closures, Denny’s is hoping to win back loyal customers with revamped menu offerings, aiming to keep the classic diner experience alive at its remaining location.

We will keep an eye on the closures. Will you miss Denny's if it leaves your neighborhood?
