Bangor's Staci Creech and Newcastle's Bailey Plourde are tied for the lead after day one of the Maine Women's Amateur Golf Champioship.

Both players shot even par scores of 71 at the Martindale course in Auburn this morning.

All other players shot over par in round one.

Creech is the two-time defending champion of the Women's Amateur while Plourde is a three-time high school state champ.

Last year Creech won the championship at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono.  Plourde, who played golf at Lincoln Academy, was runnerup.

Two years ago Creech won the state championship at the Biddeford-Saco Country Club.

Among the other contenders this year - junior golfers Erin Holmes and Stephanie Rodrigue. Former Maine Women's Amateur champs Kristin Kannegieser Leslie Guenther are also in the field.
