Caribou Police arrested a 26-year-old man Monday afternoon after responding to a complaint about an assault at a Prospect Street residence in Caribou.

When officers arrived on the scene around 3:16 pm, they found an 18-year-old male had sustained injuries after being struck with a baseball bat. Police said he was lifeflighted to EMMC due to the severity of his injuries.

The suspect, Damian Simoneau, 26-years-old of Charleston, Maine had also hit a fence and a parked vehicle at the residence while fleeing in his 1994 Dodge pickup. The vehicle was located at a residence on the Old Washburn Road in Caribou a short time later.

Simoneau was arrested without incident and transported to the Caribou Police Department. He is charged with Elevated Aggravated Assault, a class A felony, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, a class C felony and Operating After Revocation, a class C felony. Police said more charges may be added as the investigation continues.

Simoneau is being held without bail and has a scheduled court date of February 6, 2020.

Officer McPherson was assisted by Officer Stewart. Also assisting was Maine State Police, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Warden Service and Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department.
