34-year-old Cheryl Albert was the passenger in a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Ronnie Pelletier of Allagash that was traveling on north Route 11 in Township 15 in an area known as Soucy Hill at about 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

According to the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, Pelletier's 1982 Chevrolet Camaro could not avoid the moose after it entered the roadway. The car struck the moose and it caved in the windshield.

ASI Ambulance Services of Fort Kent responsed to the scene and pronounced Albert dead upon arrival. Pelletier suffered only minor injuries, but the car was a total loss.

The accident remains under investigation.

It seems that there have been a lot of accidents on Route 11 this year. What should be done to prevent vehicle - moose collisions on that stretch of highway?
