David Backes scored just 52-seconds into the game and the Boston Bruins were off and running to a 6-3 win over San Jose in Bruce Cassidy's debut as head coach.

The B's scored three first period goals to seemingly take command against one of the best teams in the Western Conference. The Bruins seemed energized playing for Cassidy who took over from the fired Claude Julien two days ago.

David Pastrnak scored two goals on the night. Patrice Bergeron added a goal and three assists. Backes had a goal and two assists.

Tuukka Rask made 23 saves in net.

So the Bruins are now 27-23-6 and have 60 points in the standings. At the moment, the B's own the second wildcard playoff spot.

Next up - the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday afternoon.
