New ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Rumors Tease Returning Replicant and Deckard’s Hideout
We have not one, but two new Blade Runner 2049 rumors today, both of which may reveal some interesting details about Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic. And while these details remain unconfirmed (for now), you may want to proceed with caution — potential spoilers ahead, you know the drill. But if you’re feeling particularly reckless today, please, by all means, read on.
Just what has Harrison Ford’s Deckard been up to in the Blade Runner universe for the past, oh, 30 years? According to Birth.Movies.Death, he’s been hanging out in a dystopian Las Vegas (that seems like a redundant description), where he’s possibly taken up residence in an old casino. So that desert landscape Ryan Gosling’s character is wandering through in the first teaser trailer? Probably Las Vegas.
As for the second rumor, The Terminator Fans (via ComingSoon) has a report claiming that one of the four original replicants from Ridley Scott’s 1982 film will make an appearance in the sequel with the help of a little CGI magic…but which one? Could be Rutger Hauer’s Roy Batty, or Daryl Hannah’s Pris or perhaps even Harrison Ford.
Not long ago, Villeneuve said that Blade Runner 2049 would maintain the mystery about Deckard’s status — i.e. whether he’s replicant or human. But Ford has aged in the sequel (and in real life), so that seems like a pretty definitive answer. Or is it? Maybe the appearance of a younger Deckard could help keep that mystery alive.
Blade Runner 2049 also stars Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Jared Leto Carla Juri, Ana de Armas and Sylvia Hoeks, and hits theaters on October 6.
