Just before 8 am Saturday morning, State Police Corporal  Diane Vance says she responded to Interstate Mile 132 in Fairfield for a crash involving a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer and a 1998 Mercury Villager van. 

The tractor trailer was operated by Mason Markley , 40, of Danielson Connecticut. and the van was operated by Kenneth Billings, 56, from Bangor.

Vance says both  vehicles were traveling south in the travel lane when the tractor trailer was struck from behind by the van.

Billings had to be extricated from the vehicle and it took almost an hour to free him.
He was transported via ambulance to Maine General initially and then transported to the Maine Medical Center in Portland with multiple injuries.

The tractor trailer was loaded with paper products heading to Arizona.
The travel lane of the Interstate was shut down for over 4 hours.

The scene was forensically mapped and reconstructed by a reconstruction team from the state police.  The tractor trailer was inspected by commercial enforcement.

Witnesses said the Billings was operating erratically and at a high rate of speed.

Fairfield Police, Fairfield Fire Department, Waterville Fire Department and Delta Ambulance assisted at the crash site.
