‘Archer’ Season 8 Moves to FXX for Spring 2017 Premiere
Archer Season 8 seemed pretty touch-and-go for a few minutes last year, between that cliffhanger ending and a delayed renewal, and now another notable change seems to be afoot. Archer will follow a number of FX comedies in making the move to FXX, getting closer to a spring 2017 premiere for Season 8.
Per the network, Archer Season 8 lacks a formal premiere date beyond the spring, though we at least know the new season will premiere on FXX. Beyond that, FX/FXX also offered a new description of its “Dreamland” premise, presumably stemming from Archer’s shooting (death?) in the Season 7 finale:
Archer is an animated, half-hour comedy that revolves around the hardboiled private eye Sterling Archer and his quest to find his partner’s killer in 1947 Los Angeles. The case proves to be more difficult than expected after Archer quickly gets mixed up in a deadly game of tug of war between Los Angeles’ most powerful crime bosses. Every clue leads Archer further away from his goal and deeper into a mystery involving kidnapping, prostitution and drug addiction.
Worth noting, co-creator Matt Thompson explained at New York Comic-Con last year that Woodhouse is the partner in question. Voice actor George Coe passed away in 2015, leaving the character largely absent from the series since. The premise also rewrites backstory and relationships for all of the main characters, including lounge singer Lana.
And says FX of the move:
Archer is an awesome addition to the growing slate of original comedies on FXX, where it will join It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Man Seeking Woman and You’re the Worst. Adam Reed, Matt Thompson and Floyd County continue to make one of the funniest shows on television and it’s great to see them earn the awards and acclaim that comes with one of the most loyal and avid fan bases in the industry.
Archer has also been renewed through Season 10 (with the possibility to conclude there), but will the series prove any lesser with a new premise, or channel?
