
Amazon Cuts 16,000 Jobs in New Round of Layoffs
The e-commerce giant recently announced that it will slash tens of thousands of jobs in another round of layoffs.
While layoffs and jobs being replaced by AI aren’t exactly unheard of in 2026, it’s still eye-opening to see even one of the world’s largest companies feeling the impact rather than being completely untouched by the shift.

Amazon is cutting about 16,000 corporate jobs in its second major round of layoffs in three months.
This news comes as the company continues to streamline operations and reduce roles that expanded during the pandemic. Executives say the company is flattening management layers and plans to rely more on generative artificial intelligence, though it has not specified which teams or locations will be affected.

The latest job reductions at Amazon continue a broader cost-cutting effort that began with 14,000 layoffs in October.
U.S.-based employees are now getting 90 days to find internal roles before receiving severance, job placement support, and continued health benefits. CEO Andy Jassy, who took over from founder Jeff Bezos, has said advances in generative AI and post-pandemic spending shifts are expected to further reshape the company’s corporate workforce.

And there you have it! In its second major round of layoffs in the past few months, Amazon has cut 16,000 corporate jobs.
