The St. Francis man accused of killing his girlfriend earlier this year pleaded not guilty at his formal arraignment Friday morning  in Aroostook County Superior Court in Caribou.

The Aroostook County Grand Jury indicted Jesse Marquis for Amy Theriault's murder in July. Marquis allegedly shot and stabbed Theriault in the early morning hours of May 31st and then fled into the woods behind her home in St. Francis.

He was captured on June 6th after a nearly week-long search of the woods behind Theriault's home.

A disposition conference in the case is scheduled for December 18th.

Stephen C. Smith, a trial lawyer with Augusta-based Lipman & Katz, is representing Marquis. John Alsop is representing the State of Maine for the prosecution, according to The Maine Attorney General's Office.

Marquis is being held without bail in Aroostook County Jail.
