On a gray Monday in Aroostook County, friends and family gathered at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou to honor the memory of those who served our country.

While flags rested at half staff, family members, friends and veterans clustered around 30 individual flag poles and waited for their cue to raise each flag to full staff.

Harry Hafford, Chairperson for the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Corporation, announced the names of those who raised each flag and who they were raising the flags in honor for. Hafford announced the flags will remain at full staff until Monday November 11th, Veterans Day.

Sergeant Major Roger Felix, who led the Loring Job Corps Color Guard, gave the order to begin lifting the flags.

Flag 1: Loretta Hebert raised a flag to honor the memory of her husband USA WWII Veteran Rene J.

Flag 2: Fred Howes and Connie Stevens raised a flag to honor the memory of their father USA WWII Veteran Isaac P. Howes.

Flag 3: Betty Michaud along with her daughter Malena and son Jay raised a flag to honor the memory of husband and father USA Vietnam War Veteran SP-4 Joseph "Junior" Michaud.

Flag 4: Dale and Martha McGlinn raised a flag to honor the memory of Dale's brother USA Veteran Carl McGlinn.

Flag 5: Carl and Brenda Campbell raised a flag to honor the memory of Brenda's dad USN WWII Veteran Leo Clifton Crafts.

Flag 6: Carl McGlauflin raise a flag to honor the memory of his brother USN Seebee WWII Veteran Earl "Lefty" McGlauflin.

Flag 7: Jacqueline Page and her husband along with Jacqueline's uncle Gaylon Lyons raised a flag to honor the memory of Jacqueline's father and Gaylon's brother USA Vietnam War Veteran Lendell M. Lyons.

Flag 8: Jane Zagranis with her daughter Karlyn Korzekwa and son Mark Zagranis raised a flag to honor the memory of husband and father USAF Vietnam War Veteran Rudolph Zagranis.

Flag 10: Debra Kinney and her husband Ralph along with DAB Chapter 10 member raised a flag to honor the memory of USAF Veteran Richard Pratt.

Flag 30: SFC Christopher Holmes and SSGT Jeremy Brown representing the United States Armed Forces raised a flag that was flown over the Nation's Capital, donated for the ceremony by US Senator Susan Collins to honor the memories of all deceased United States Veterans.
