The truck went out of control in the northbound service plaza in Kennebunk, struck a sign and two light posts and then overturned on its side, according to spokesman Steve McCausland.

The driver of the big rig, 67-year-old Paul Comeau of Leeds, was not pinned inside the truck’s cab, but needed help to get out and he was freed by the Kennebunk Fire Department. Comeau was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The truck, owned by Chapman Trucking of Auburn, was hauling crushed glass, which spilled onto the parking lot, when the box trailer spilled open.

The truck slid about 100 feet in the parking lot and came within inches of striking a motor home, that was parked there. The motor home was occupied by Bonnie and Kerry Bowden of Belmont, Maine. Both escaped injury. The couple's Jeep, which was being towed by the motor home, sustained minor damage and the couple was able to drive away, McCausland said.

The crash took place abound 7:30 a.m. Monday

State Troopers said Comeau will face charges once their investigation is further along.
