A 24-year-old woman is dead and her 8-month-old son is hospitalized in serious condition after a head-on collision just below Woodstock, New Brunswick.

The crash happened on Route 122 in Dow Settlement around 12:25 Friday afternoon, according to Corporal Marty Van Dijk of the Woodstock RCMP.

The Canterbury Fire Department responded to the crash and the Woodstock Fire Department also assisted with the Jaws of Life.

Police say the driver of one of the cars, a woman from Scott Siding, died en route to the hospital. Her baby boy was transported to the Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton in serious condition.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle, a 47-year-old woman, was also taken by ambulance to the Fredericton hospital with serious injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist is working with the Woodstock RCMP to investigate the cause of the crash.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
