The gym. No two words serve as a better synonym for “dread,” right?

As we head into a new year, many of us claim working out as our big resolution. The prospect of having to change into clothes we are only going to sweat right out of on machines that we have to wait to use all so we can maintain the illusion we’ll have chiseled physiques can be too much for even the most dedicated exercise fiend, which is why they (whoever “they” are) say it’s a good idea to go to the gym with someone.

Working out with a friend or partner can be a way to inspire and motivate you. The presence of another person can push you to limits you didn’t know you could reach. You’ll also have a sympathetic ear, someone who understands what you’re trying to achieve.

Then again, a gym buddy can be a 45-pound kettle bell-sized annoyance. Maybe you don’t like being pushed or working together, doing exercises that don’t interest you. Maybe you do better pumping iron with your headphones in, music blaring to you and you only.

So, tell us, which option is better? Or, maybe you choose neither and vote sitting on the couch with a big bowl of ice cream.
