Police say an accident involving a tractor in Washburn Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a local woman.

The Washburn Police Department responded to call on the Tabor Road at about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to Police Chief Roy Guidry.

Forty-five-year-old Ruth Whitmore and her husband had been digging post holes with a tractor on their property when the accident occurred, Guidry said.

Crown Ambulance arrived a short time later and Mrs. Whitmore was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maine State Police, Washburn Fire and Rescue, and the Maine Warden Service also responded to the accident.

No further details are being released at this time.
