The Lonely Planet Magazine Names Northern Maine as Top 10 US Travel Destination for 2013
The Lonely Planet magazine, has named Aroostook County as a ‘must visit’ travel destination in 2013.
The magazine recognizes Aroostook County for its hiking, rafting, canoe trips, and moose watching.
"Many people are familiar with the beauty of Maine's coast and beaches. This recognition will encourage visitors to extend their stay and explore the northern part of our great state after some time on our beautiful coastline," said Commissioner George Gervais of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. "We want to encourage our visitors to take deeper excursions, stay longer and spend more."
Northern Maine is the only New England location selected by the magazine. The Lonely Planet goes on to call Northern Maine ‘a wilderness adventure.’
