The state's best high school basketball teams face off in state championship games in Bangor, Augusta and Portland.

CLASS AA: Bangor Claims State Crown With Win Over Bonny Eagle [BOYS]

The Bangor Rams defeated the Bonny Eagle Scots Saturday night to claim the state championship of the state's largest schools.

Bangor, the north champions, led after each quarter, finishing off the south champion-Scots 58-48 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

The Scots were able to cut the Rams' double-digit lead to just three points with about two minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but the Rams regained control on a jumper by Matt Fleming and a drive to the hoop by Damien Vance to bump the lead back up to eight points.

From there, Bangor was able to seal the victory with key free throws as the Scots were forced to foul. >>MORE>>

CLASS D: Defending Champs Southern Aroostook Reclaim Crown

The defending champion Southern Aroostook Warriors reclaimed their state crown Saturday with a convincing win over the south champion Greenville Lakers.

The Warriors led from start to finish, opening up a 15-point lead at halftime and a 20-point lead after three quarters on their way to a 55-30 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Junior Sydney Brewer surpassed 1,000 career points during the game, in which she scored 14 points. Eight players scored for the Warriors. Among them, junior Makaelyn Porter had 13 points,and senior Kassidy Mathers finished with seven points. >>MORE>>

Forest Hills Stays Perfect With State Championship Over Schenck

The Forest Hills Tigers capped off a perfect season Saturday with a state championship win over the Schenck Wolverines in Bangor.

The Tigers were off and running early and opened up a double-digit lead in the second half on their way to a 22-0 record and a 70-65 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Schenck was able to cut the lead to five points as time expired, but the Forest Hills lead was too much to overcome.

It was a balanced scoring attach from the Tigers with sophomore Parker Desjardins leading the team with 18 points. Senior Brandon Gilboe had 17 points, Dalton Grgoire had 16 points and Jakob Rivas had 15 points. >>MORE>>

CLASS C: Winthrop Defeats Houlton, Claims State Title

The Winthrop Ramblers defeated the Houlton Shiretowners, 61-49, in Saturday night's Class C state championship game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

It's the Ramblers' first state championship title since 2008.

Winthrop was led by senior captain Cameron Wood, who scored a team-high 14 points. Cameron Hachey added 12 for the Ramblers while Sam Figueroa and Jared Mclaughlin chipped in 9 apiece.

Winthrop, the South's No. 1 seed, finishes the season an impressive 21-1. >>MORE>>

CLASS C: Boothbay Stays Perfect, Wins Class C State Title

The Boothbay Seahawks defeated the Penobscot Valley Howlers, 33-25, at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday night, capping off a perfect 22-0 season while claiming their first state title since 1984.

Boothbay trailed 13-5 after the first quarter and 15-11 at halftime, but the Seahawks took the lead in the third quarter but didn't give it up.

Sophomore Glory Blethen led the Seahawks with 10 points, while her sister, senior captain Faith Blethen, scored 9. Junior guard Chloe Arsenault chipped in 8. >>MORE>>

CLASS B: Gray-New Gloucester Defeats MDI For State Crown [GIRLS]

The Gray-New Gloucester Patriots defeated the north champs MDI Trojans Saturday afternoon to claim the state championship at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

Gray-New Gloucester led for most of the game and finished off the Trojans 43-30 to earn the gold ball.

For the Patriots, Brie Jordan scored 17 points in the win. Jordan Grant had 10 points.

Julian Watras led the Trojans with 9 points. Hannah Chamberlain had seven points and Maddie Candage added six points. >>MORE>>

CLASS A: Greely Holds Hampden At Bay To Claim State Title [GIRLS]

The Greely Rangers claimed their second-straight state title after holding off the Hampden Academy Broncos Friday night at the Augusta Civic Center.

The Rangers were led by senior standout Anna DeWolfe, who scored 28 points in the 54-42 win.

After trailing by double digital in the first half, the Broncos did briefly cut the lead to six points in the third quarter, but the Rangers maintained an eight-to-10 point lead for most of the fourth quarter on their way to the championship.

Besides DeWolfe's outstanding play, Camille Clement scored 14 for the Rangers. >>MORE>>
