Even though they closed in 2024, Slab in Portland, Maine is a place that was not only voted the best pizza in Maine, but has a huge cult following.
Voted Best in Maine

Location was Too Big
People still talk about the food. Everyone loved the slices. They said the main reason for closing was the location was too big as an entertainment venue and they needed better alcohol sales.
Style of Pizza
One of the major appeals of the restaurant was the style of pizza. Slab served thick slices. It’s in the name. The pizza crust was fluffy with caramelized cheese. The flavor and texture was unique and delicious.
Started by Food Icon
Part of the big following was the late owner, Steven Lanzalotta, who was revered as a food icon in Portland.
Downtown Portland
Slab was located in the downtown area in the Portland Public Market at 25 Preble Street.
