Christmas is magical and these Presque Isle High School Varsity Club members are working hard to make sure that the kids in their community get to experience it.

Presque Isle Varsity Club Member, Max Barley said,

"I think every kid should be able to experience the magic of Christmas and this is a way to kind of help them do that and help them feel like they can celebrate Christmas too."

Each year the students help the United Way of Aroostook organize and pack the toys that the community donates.

Presque Isle Varsity Club Member, Natalie Bates said,

"This is my second year participating in this and I’ve enjoyed it both years.  It’s just good to give back to the community and the kids who might not have gifts this Christmas."

Hundreds of toys were donated this year to Santa’s Sleigh which was more than the students were expecting.

Bartley added,

"We’ve got piles on top of piles of toys. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this many.  It’s pretty impressive how much the community came together."

Sherry Locke, Executive Director of The United Way of Aroostook said,

"It means a lot to us knowing these kids are helping their friends and neighbors in our community they might be students in their classroom or that live on their street that might be in need of these toys and to have their help and support to do this project is just awesome it really is about kids helping kids this time of year."

Paige McHatten, who also a Presque Isle Varsity Club Member said,

"It’s a great opportunity for all of us in the varsity club to give back to our community because we don’t know who these toys are going to it could be some people in our classrooms or who live in our neighborhoods so it’s a great opportunity to be able to give back to the community that gives so much to us not just in athletics but in everything we’re involved in."

The gifts these students packed will be handed out to children and teens in their community.

If you need assistance during the holidays contact your local municipality and they will work with the United Way of Aroostook to make sure your family has a magical Christmas.
