Coffee.

We like it, we love it, we want some more of it...every morning and all damn day.

Coffee is a part of our identity. What I mean by that is we all like our coffee slightly differently. Some go black, heavy cream, extra sugar, one and one, two and two, and so on. There are endless options.

Every now and then, I like what I call a sweet treat, AKA a sweet flavor. I am talking about the French vanilla, caramel swirl, mocha...all the flavors, really.

You see places like Dunkin experimenting with coconut and lavender, and it really got me thinking that there are a LOT of coffee flavors out there.

I would have assumed the most liked coffee flavor in the United States is French vanilla. It just feels like a safe bet.

Turns out I was wrong.

According to a Versa Networks article, "caramel flavored coffee reigns supreme as the most popular coffee flavor in the country, ranking #1 for search volume in 11 states. In a close second place spot, mocha flavored coffee won in ten states, followed by vanilla (nine states), hazelnut (seven states), cinnamon roll (six states), and pumpkin (five states)."

But what are New England states' favorites?

Looking at the list, what do you think?

You guessed it, us New Englanders are proud pumpkin coffee drinkers.

In New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, the most popular coffee flavor was pumpkin. Perhaps the fall foliage and phenomenal marketing by Dunkin' and Starbucks have tricked us. Either way, pumpkin in New England is superior.

Maine's top choice was the blueberry...a wild favorite. Massachusetts claimed cinnamon as their top choice, whereas Connecticut was the only New England state with hazelnut being their top flavor of choice.
