Thursday, April 24 is national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day and Governor Paul LePage is encouraging Mainers to participate by taking young people, between the ages of 9 and 15, to their workplace for at least part of the day.

Started in 1993 as Take Our Daughters to Work Day, it quickly expanded to include boys and over the past 20 years has helped to spark interest in many career fields for millions of young people.  The program has also spread to Canada, England, Switzerland, India and Africa.

Governor LePage said, “As children begin to think about their future career paths, it’s important for parents, mentors and teachers to provide them ways to learn what they are most passionate about. One of the best gifts we can give our children is someone who can show them their potential and let them know that a job can turn into a career they love to do.”

Check with your employer or supervisor to see if your company or department is participating in Thursday's event.

Parents, mentors and employers can learn more by visiting the official Take our Daughters and Sons to Work website.
