Strong winds have knocked out power to more than 20,000 customers in northern and eastern Maine overnight.

Emera says workers will remain in the field making repairs until all customers are fully restored.

Emera Maine has restored service to all its customers. NB Power said about 1,000 homes and businesses remain without power Friday morning.

The Canadian Red Cross is helping several people who were displaced.

Following on the heels of storm surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday that brought up to a foot of snow to some parts of the state, Emera Maine is gearing up for another winter event.

More than 51,000 customers are experiencing power outages at 11 a.m. Friday

The Aroostook Emergency Management Agency in connection with local and state police posted announcements on their Facebook.

Over 37,000 Mainers, including 9,000 in Aroostook County, were without power after a storm Saturday night.

One year after the wind storm that knocked out power to almost half a million people, questions are being asked about what how we can stop that from happening in the future.
