Graduation

PRESQUE ISLE—Claudette LaBonte Kane laughingly says that the story of her life is that she starts things but never finishes them. But more than four decades after taking her first class at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, she will be completing her undergraduate experience by marching in UMPI’s Commencement Exercises on May 16 and receiving her Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree.

Friday was graduation day for many new officers in Maine, and several officers will be joining police forces here in Aroostook County.

Two hundred and thirteen students graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday, May 17, during the 2014 Commencement Exercises – the University’s 105th Commencement ceremony. President Linda Schott conferred degrees for the 2013-2014 academic year upon 138 students who participated in the ceremony held in Wieden Gymnasium.

It was graduation day at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro, and Aroostook County will soon have several new State Troopers.

Maine's high school graduation rate continues to climb with over 86 percent of all students who entered the ninth grade in the fall of 2009 earning their diplomas on time in 2013.
