The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of Aroostook County from 9 a.m.Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Forecasters say snow and sleet will continue through the day on Tuesday and then mix with or change to freezing rain Tuesday night. Wednesday's wintry mix will be mostly freezing rain and sleet, mixing with snow in northern parts of the County.

Snow and sleet accumulation of 4 to 8 inches is likely in most areas, with up to a foot possible in the far north. Snow and sleet totals in southern Aroostook may only end up between 3 and 5 inches but ice buildup of more than an 1/4 of an inch is possible.

The storm could make many roads treacherous and impassable, forecasters say. The weight of the snow and ice on tree limbs and power lines could lead to power outages.

Winds are expected to be from the northeast at 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph overnight. Temperatures will climb to near the freezing mark.

Stay tuned for updates on the storm as it gets closer.
