This year's Special Olympics Spring Games will be held almost a week later than planned.

The 43rd Annual Spring Games will be held on Thursday, May 16, at the Johnson Athletic Complex at the Presque Isle Middle School. It was rescheduled from Friday, May 10, due to expected rainy weather.

Opening ceremonies get underway at 9:00 am and spectators are encouraged to attend the activities throughout the day.

Over 300 athletes from all over Aroostook County are expected to compete in this year's Spring Games, with the motto being “‘Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.’”

Competitions in this year's event include the 100-meter run, relay races, softball throw and the standing long jump.

Event chair Steve Richard credits the area management team, local volunteers and sponsors for the Spring Games' success each year. Over 150 volunteers are expected to take part in this year's event.

Winners at the Spring Games are eligible to compete at the Special Olympics Maine Summer Games which will be held at the University of Maine in Orono from June 6-9. Top finishers at the Summer Games will advance to the national Special Olympics.
