Southwestern New Brunswick Getting New Wellness Centre
New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant on Monday visited Saint Stephen for a tour of the new Charlotte County Collaborative Wellness Centre at the Charlotte County Hospital.
Space on the third floor of the hospital is being retrofitted to accommodate the centre. A nurse practitioner primary care practice is being developed to see people who are registered on the Patient Connect NB registry.
The Charlotte County centre will also offer women’s wellness services. Horizon Health Network expects to establish additional clinics so that people will not need to travel to larger centres for diagnosis and treatment.
Gallant said improved access to acute care is a pillar of the New Brunswick Family Plan Framework. The framework aims to improve the lives of all residents by addressing the factors that have the greatest impact upon health and well-being. It focuses government action in seven priority areas: improving access to primary and acute care; promoting wellness; supporting people with mental health challenges; fostering healthy aging and support for seniors; advancing women’s equality; reducing poverty; and supporting people with disabilities.
“New Brunswickers want access to strong health care in all regions of the province,” said Gallant. “The Charlotte County Hospital delivers excellent health-care services to New Brunswick families. This new wellness centre within the Charlotte County Hospital will help improve access to primary health care in the southwest of New Brunswick.”
