Snowfall in northern Maine has been below normal this winter, but interestingly we have the same amount of snow on the ground as we did on this day last year.

Measurements taken at the National Weather Service Office in Caribou show 10 inches of snow on the ground right now, the same as on January 20, 2015.

Here’s a comparison of snowfall totals from this winter (so far) compared to last.

Montly Snowfall           2015-16           2014-15

November 1-30                3.8”                 28.8”

December 1-31              27.8”                 27.1”

January 1-20                    9.8”                 13.1”

TOTALS                         41.4”                  69.0”

Also worth mentioning is that Caribou received 21 inches of snow in the final week of January 2015.

Forecasters say a major winter storm bearing down on the Northeastern U.S. this weekend may not significantly impact northern Maine.
