Ask anyone from away that has come to party in the Old Port, things shut down early here compared to most of the world. While our "early to bed, early to rise" mentality may be good for our workforce, some feel that it puts us at a disadvantage with tourists.

A bill would allow for a later closing time for Maine drinking holes, according to WMTW. Instead of kicking folks out at 12:45 a.m. for a 1 a.m. closing, we wouldn't hear, "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!" until 2 a.m.

Some feel that our current closing time is just fine, that drinking for an extra hour would lead to more crime and rowdy behavior.
