Downtown Caribou will soon be the home to a new Sears Hometown Store.

Caribou city manager Austin Bleess said today the store will have its opening next month.
Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores corporation spun off from the larger Sears company three years ago and focuses on home appliances, lawn and garden equipment, apparel, mattresses, sporting goods and tools. The Caribou location at 57 Sweden is in the building housing Expect More Dollar Store and Options Rent To Own.

Dave Bell is the store's manager and says remodeling is underway, with the focus primarily on tools, lawn and garden equipment and appliances. He says the three stores will work cooperatively, with the Sears name and experience augmenting the Options facility.

The Sears Hometown strategy involves partnering with locally owned and managed businesses to retain a small-town hardware store feel but with national distribution clout.

This is the third Sears Hometown store in Aroostook County and the first in Central Aroostook. The others are in Houlton and Fort Kent. There are nearly 1.200 nationwide.

Bell says plan are underway for a soft-opening with four or five full-time employees on January 28th, with a grand opening sometime in February.
