Surprised though we were that Roseanne was next on the list for revival, we knew ABC would put up a fight to host it. So it is, that the broadcast network has beaten out Netflix for the chance to bring back Roseanne, currently eying the return for midseason.

ABC boss Channing Dungey confirmed as much Tuesday on a conference call with reporters, noting that there were few official details available beyond a likely midseason premiere date. Expected among the cast are Roseanne Barr, John Goodman (somehow), Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman and Lecy Goranson, with Goranson’s later-season replacement Sarah Chalke amusingly taking on a new role.

The original Roseanne aired from 1988 to 1997 and famously transformed in its ninth season from a blue-collar comedy to Roseanne’s antics after winning the lottery. The series finale revealed that much of the ninth season (and the series itself) was based on the Roseanne character’s writing; with one notable tweak that Dan (Goodman) had actually died of a heart attack the previous season.

We’ll hear more soon, so stay tuned for the latest on Roseanne’s return.
