Maine's only Cracker Barrel in South Portland has closed permanently after 15 years. The restaurant faced post-pandemic challenges and other difficulties, leading to the decision to shut its doors.
Vacationland’s only Cracker Barrel restaurant has permanently closed, as confirmed by the chain on Wednesday.
Located near the Maine Mall in South Portland, employees reportedly learned about the closure upon arriving for work, according to CBS13. The company plans to assist them in finding jobs at other locations.
This follows the conclusion of a busy Q2 earnings season for sit-down dining establishments, including Cracker Barrel and its recent performance.
According to Yahoo! Finance, Cracker Barrel reported Q2 revenues of $894.4 million, reflecting a 6.9% increase from the previous year and aligning with expectations. However, the quarter was slower overall, with earnings falling short of key estimates. Despite this, CEO Julie Masino expressed optimism about the company’s improvement plans. Following the report, Cracker Barrel's stock has surged nearly 50%.
