The RCMP is working on a new service that will allow people in province to text 911.

RCMP officials say allowing people to text 911 as well as use their land line or cell phone is part of keeping up with ever-changing technology.

The Provincial Government expects the six New Brunswick 911 centers to be offering the service by the end of 2014.

It is expected that Facebook or Twitter may also be used to contact 911 in the future.
