Popular Chain With 5 Stores in Maine Announces Closings for 2025
This department store, which has a handful of locations in our Pine Tree State, has announced its plan to close several stores in 2025.

Listen, we’re just as tired as you are of hearing about businesses closing, but unfortunately, that’s the reality of 2025. Every week, it feels like another company is announcing nationwide closures, and sadly, this might only be the beginning.
So, which popular department store chain with five locations in Maine is planning to close stores in 2025?
Kohl’s is closing 27 underperforming stores by April as part of efforts to improve profitability, a small portion of its 1,150 locations. The decision comes as CEO Tom Kingsbury steps down, with Ashley Buchanan, former Michaels CEO, set to take over by the end of January.
In an effort to improve profitability and stability, Kohl’s is closing over two dozen stores across more than a dozen states.
Kohl’s is facing ongoing challenges from shifting consumer behavior, weak holiday sales, and a declining stock value, prompting difficult decisions to secure its future. Like Macy’s, which recently announced store closures, Kohl’s is shutting locations to adapt to a tough retail environment shaped by inflation and changing shopping habits.
