Police Chase Involved Stolen Truck, Crashes and Arrest in Maine

A 22-year-old man was arrested after a police chase in a stolen truck that hit a cruiser and was involved in several crashes in the Bangor area.

Multiple Charges

Andrew Wright was charged with Aggravated Driving to Endanger, Eluding an Officer, Criminal Speed, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, Trespass by Motor Vehicle, Operating Without a License.

Doing Donuts in Public Park

The incident started after reports of a pickup truck with significant front-end damage doing donuts in a public park with people present.

Truck Reported Stolen

The truck had been reported stolen and had been involved in a police pursuit earlier Thursday night.

Stolen Truck Located and Chase Started

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office located the truck on Broadway following more reports of reckless driving.

Suspect Sped Away and Fled

Deputies tried to pull the pick up over but Wright fled at a high rate of speed.

Stolen Truck Drove into Oncoming Traffic

“During the ensuing pursuit, the driver operated recklessly, repeatedly crossing into oncoming traffic and driving in a manner that posed an immediate danger to motorists and the public,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Suspect Intentionally Hit Cruiser

Wright “intentionally rammed a deputy’s cruiser and made several additional attempts to strike or force pursuing law enforcement vehicles off the roadway. A second sheriff’s cruiser also sustained damage during the incident,” said PCSO.

Police Chase Through Residential Areas

The police chase continued through several areas including residential properties and fields.

Pursuit Continued for Safety

“Due to the driver’s ongoing dangerous behavior and the immediate threat posed to the public, deputies continued the pursuit in an effort to stop the vehicle and prevent further harm,” said PCSO.

Spike Strips Deployed and Truck Drove on Rims

Spike strips were deployed and the truck’s tires were deflated. Wright did not stop and continued driving on the rims with destroyed tires.

Stolen Truck Disabled after a Collision with Another Vehicle

The chase ended in Corinth after Wright fled into a parking lot and was hit by another vehicle, disabling the stolen truck.

Suspect Apprehended

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Penobscot County Jail and booked.

More Charges Pending

Additional charges are expected. No injuries were reported, said deputies. The investigation is ongoing.
