
The Old Farmer’s Almanac Reacts to the Farmer’s Almanac Ending
The publication, first released in 1792, issued a statement about the one that began in 1818, following its announcement that it would be closing.
The Maine-based Farmers’ Almanac announced on Thursday, November 6th, that its 2026 edition—already on shelves—will be its final publication, citing growing financial challenges in today’s 'chaotic media environment.'

Online access will end next month, closing a legacy that began in 1818 and became famous for long-range weather forecasts based on sunspots, planetary positions, and lunar cycles.
In its farewell post titled ‘A Fond Farewell,’ the almanac reflected on its history of sharing jokes, natural remedies, and gardening wisdom, writing, ‘The season we hoped would never come is here.’

That same day, the Old Farmer’s Almanac posted an update titled ‘The Old Farmer’s Almanac—234 Years and Still Going Strong,’ reassuring readers that it’s not shutting down.
The publication clarified that while the Farmer’s Almanac from Lewiston is ending after more than 200 years, The Old Farmer’s Almanac—founded in 1792—will continue to publish and engage readers online at Almanac.com.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac continues with books, digital tools, and seasonal weather forecasts, while keeping its focus on gardening, astronomy, and folklore.
The publication reassures readers that, just like the rising sun, its familiar yellow cover and reliable 80% accurate forecasts will endure for generations to come.
