Something pretty special is going to be happening in Houlton in the coming months. It will be the first running of the Miracle Mile to help raise money for research and awareness for Pediatric Cancer and Diamond Blackfan Anemia.

Two very special little girls will be hosting the run and walk. One of them is Makenna Ward who is the daughter of Kirk and Amy Ward from Houlton. Makenna was diagnosed with childhood cancer and has been being treated for several years now.

Kirk Ward had this to say, “My reason for this event and inspiration is not only my own daughters fight with cancer but the thousands (12,500) of kids who are diagnosed yearly. Miracle Mile will also benefit Diamond Blackfan Anemia, a rare blood disorder in which the bone marrow fails to make red blood cells. So the race will personally effect our two young ladies represented, Makenna and Maggie.”

The Miracle Mile race will take place on July 3rd, 2013 right in Houlton. The race will start at the mouth of Cary Street and end up in Market Square.

After the race, racers will be invited across Gateway Arch Walking Bridge to Riverside Park where an Awards reception will take place. All participants are than welcome to enjoy the rest of the night’s festivities as Houlton’s Midnight Madness celebration kicks off.
