The MDI Trojans will have a chance to defend their north region championship after a convincing win over the No. 3 Presque Isle Wildcats Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Center.

The No. 2 Trojans (17-3) enjoyed a double-digit lead throughout most of the night on their way to a 72-60 semifinal win over the Wildcats.

Junior Derek Collin had 20 points for the defending state champion Trojans, who played their disciplined brand of basketball and wore down the Wildcats. Dane Vanzura added 11 points for MDI.

Presque Isle was able to cut the lead to nine points late in the game, but MDI was able to sink their free throws when the Wildcats were forced to foul.

Senior Griffin Guerrette scored 30 points for the Wildcats.

Presque Isle finishes the season at 14-6.

MDI will play in the regional final on Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
