Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 33-year-old Karter Bell at his residence on the East Ridge Road in connection with an alleged assault on Tuesday involving a woman in Mars Hill.

Deputies began the criminal investigation on Tuesday, but efforts to locate Bell late that day were unsuccessful, according to Sheriff Darrell Crandall.  Bell, who was apparently aware that police were looking for him, was located Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody.

Bell was charged with domestic violence assault, terrorizing, criminal threatening and criminal mischief.  He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton where he remains after a bail commissioner refused to set bail because of the nature of the incident, Crandall said.

Bell will make his initial appearance before a judge on Thursday or Friday.  Sheriff Crandall said further information about the victim or details about the incident itself are not being released at this time.

Maine State Police assisted the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office in the search for Bell.
