A 26-year-old man died Tuesday and two women were seriously injured after a head-on collision in Poland, Maine.

Man Died after Two-Vehicle Crash

Dylan Sanphy was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Plains Road around 3:40 pm.

Head On Crash as Vehicle was Passing Another Vehicle

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said Sanphy was driving a Jeep Cherokee when he attempted to pass another vehicle and crashed head-on with a Chevy Silverado driven by 52-year-old Edward Morris from Mechanic Falls. Morris was towing an enclosed snowmobile trailer.

Two Women Seriously Injured and Transported to the Hospital

Two women in Sanphy’s vehicle were seriously injured and were taken to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Second Driver Treated at the Scene

Morris was attended to at the crash site and evaluated. He did not require transport to the hospital.

Vehicle Totaled with Front-End Damage

The vehicles had extensive damage and were totaled, according to deputies.

Sheriff’s Office Looking for Vehicle Being Passed and did not Stop

“The vehicle that was being passed by the Jeep is described as a Subaru that did not remain at the scene. Deputy Chris Miller is seeking to speak with the occupant(s) of that vehicle,” said the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office.

Reconstruction Team Involved in Ongoing Crash Investigation

The crash is under investigation. A crash reconstructionist team was on site. Assisting was the Mechanic Falls Police Department, Oxford Fire-Rescue and Auburn Fire-Rescue.
