A Washington County man is in custody in connection with a shooting Monday morning in Calais.

Calais police report that Christopher Grant, 46, of Calais was arrested at about 11 a.m. Tuesday for possession of a firearm by a felon. He's also charged with probation violation.

Calais Police Chief David Randall says officers were dispatched to Baring Street just before 10:30 Monday morning after a 17-year-old teenage boy said he’d been assaulted at a residence on South Street.

The teenager, who is from Amsterdam, New York, said he heard a gunshot as he fled the home.

Just after 10:30, a man, identified as 38-year-old Tony McLaughlin of Calais, arrived at Calais Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Randall says the firearm used was recovered at another residence in Calais and the Maine State Police were called in to investigate the crime scene located at South Street.

McLaughlin told investigators the gunshot wound was accidental.

Chief Grant says the arrest of Christopher Grant is not the end of the investigation and that more charges and arrests are likely.
