Woodstock RCMP say they received a complaint shortly after 3 p.m., that an intoxicated man had a loaded rifle and was uttering death threats.  Police responded and evacuated residents on Eagle's Nest Drive and the surrounding area.

Police say there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police and the man barricaded himself inside a residence.

The RCMP's Emergency Response Team, negotiators and a police dog were called in and remained on the scene for several hours.  The suspect finally surrendered to police shortly after 2 a.m. Monday and was taken into custody without further incident.  Police say the man was transported to the hospital and was treated for non life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

Police on Monday morning cordoned off the area where the standoff occurred for RCMP's Forensic Identification experts to collect any potential evidence.

The suspect remains in police custody and will appear in Woodstock Provincial Court on Monday afternoon to face related charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
